Obvious product placement is starting to creep me out...

I stopped contributing to the statistics of American Idol many moons ago, but not before the gang started singing and dancing around the latest Ford monstrosity or a large Coke glass. Product placement has become an integral part of this show, and is one of the reasons I stopped following it (alongside their blatant capitalization of mocking the mentally disabled and/or sick.)

But I confess, I watch The Biggest Loser. I find the contestants inspirational, to an extent. For a reality show there seems to be less focus on the trash talk and backstabbing and more on hard work and support. For these reasons, it's actually one of the only shows I watch on a weekly basis (until Lost comes back, that is...)

But I seriously can't take the product placements! They're new to the show this year and they give me the heebie jeebies . In the middle of a workout session or a heart to heart, one of the trainers will turn to the camera and say:

"You can do this, Liz! You have the strength to push through and reach your goals. You're 22 years old you should be able to lift that 22lb dumbbell above your head! Damnit, Liz. Push! You're a strong woman, and this Extra sugar free Polar Ice gum will help you fight your cravings, giving you fresh breath and a whiter smile!" *insert creepy toothy smile*
It's... uncomfortables. Take THIS CLIP as an example... Thank god for Ziplock, hmm? And that's a mild example from last season, not nearly as seamless as those from this season.

It's like The Truman Show...

1. I caught a bit of the show last night, right before they were about to run their marathon and Allison Sweeney said something about crossing the finish line and then being able to have a ________(insert product name here) protein shake which only has so and so calories and blah, blah, blah. So I agree with your beef on product placement.

2. I could definitely fill one of those ziploc containers with MORE than 100 calories. Please, give me a real challenge!

Ewww, I know. They started doing that on What Not To Wear. After Carmandy finishes the makeover, she hands them Crest Whitestrips and tells them how pretty they will be afterwards. You know how we know its officially a product placement and not legitimate advice? (Aside from the brand name)? Because no one ever says to her, "What are you talking about? Are you saying I have fugly brown teeth? Thanks a lot. Be-yotch."

I love this show too, but I totally agree about the product placements. But also, the whole 'working huge people until they practically pass out' thing is starting to freak me out a bit. Doesn't it seem like they're working harder every season? I'm worried someone is going to die.

Beef, I bet I could easily get a small bag of cheesies in that container. Not to mentiona few dozen mini sour keys. Don't get me started on what we could get from the Bulk Barn...

Hurrah, thank you for reminding me of why I also stopped watching WNTW. You're so much better than that, Carmandy! Do you think it was a WNTW thing or a personal clause in Carmandy's contract that she's the spokesperson for Crest? And really? They don't even work... The human seacucumber used to waste his money on them. It's like masking taping your teeth.

Pants, the other thing I hate is how much reflection they're doing now. We get it! They were big! Stop showing me what Rudy looked like at 407 lbs. I don't need to see the tape footage from the start of the season again and again and again... I'm not impressed at seeing Liz in her uber tight shirt standing next to an oversized picture of her former self. Last night's episode could easily have been an hour but because of the GD flashbacks and product segments it went on for two bloody hours!

And somebody, please, get that Amanda girl a better bra...

Oh my gosh! I noticed this too. Extra gum? As part of a weight loss program? Really?

Guys, I get annoyed with blatant product placement too. But when I do, I reach for a refreshing glass of Pepsi. It's the choice of a new generation.
